The Greatest Love of All

In my previous post, I mentioned how a student of mine – because of her name – would trigger a barrage of Adele songs in my head.

Maybe I am a little late in this, but I just realised that Adele has a song entitled ‘Make You Feel My Love’.

Having been a casual radio listener for the bulk of my life, I have probably heard this song on radio. But I really did not pay attention to the lyrics and all that, and more probably, I came across the song without knowing that it was by Adele.

Thanks to another ex-student of mine – it’s Ivy by the way – I finally got to slow down and appreciate the lyrics of this Adele song.

The Beauty of the Song

In the song ‘Make You Feel My Love’, the protagonist sings of her love for someone, and her willingness to do anything and everything to make the world a better place for her lover.

She is willing to suffer hunger, go ‘black and blue’ and crawl down the avenue just to make him feel her love.

Such is the power of love.

But humans are fallible. The promises of today can easily crumble into pieces by tomorrow.

I love Adele’s song about love. Love is both a desire and an aspiration.

And it’s all too human to want love.

But perhaps we are all looking for it at all the wrong places.

Because a greater love exists. And it’s been in existence for about 2,000 years.
